A Buffalo Soldier
Private David Eric Dunn Royal Warwickshire Regiment & Royal Engineers
General Service Medal 'Palestine 1945-48'. Imperial Service Medal. Efficiency Medal 'T&AVR'.
The Man David Eric Dunn enlisted into the Royal Warwickshire Regiment shortly after World War 2 with service number 21056149 and served in Palestine being awarded the General Service Medal with clasp 'Palestine 1945-48'. He later joined the Territorial Army as a Sapper in the Royal Engineers earning the Efficiency Medal T&AVR. He also worked for the Civil Service and upon his retirement was awarded the Imperial Service Medal of which details are still sought from the London Gazette. David Dunn was also a member of the Royal Antidiluvean Order of the Buffaloes, Narberth Castle lodge and was awarded two of their jewels, seen below.
The Story The three medals awarded to David Eric Dunn were acquired from E-Bay on 6th December 2009, and of interest because of the Imperial Service / Efficiency medal combination, plus the inclusion of the fully named Buffalo Medals. Sadly little detail could be uncovered on Ancestry.UK, and extensive searching details of his Imperial Service Medal were not located in the London Gazette. The named Buffalo medals help make this an interesting group despite the lack of detail and demonstrate another life-long interest outside of the Armed Forces and work.
This group of medals is one I have only been able to find a minimal amount of detail on. They are in effect 'work in progress' as one day something additional may well be uncovered. Please feel free to contact me should you know of, or have any information on this man.
