Sapper J Darwen Royal Engineers
1939-45 Star. France and Germany Star. Defence Medal. War Medal 1939-45.
The Man The only information known about J Darwen are that he served in the Royal Engineers as a Sapper during World War II with service number 2111319.
He was awarded the 1939-45 Star, France and Germany Star, Defence Medal and War Medal 1939-45, which he claimed in 1950 whilst living at 111 Riley Street, Blackburn, Lancashire.
The Story The medals awarded to J Darwen were acquired from E-Bay in August 2024 and bid upon as the price was reasonable and all the medals had been engraved with J Darwen’s details.
Sadly, despite checking in detail there are too many J Darwens in Lancashire to be able to make a definitive match.
Such a pity as Darwen had gone to the trouble of having his medals named, only to be subsequently forgotten for want of more detail.
