Warrant Office and Observer Michael Eric Parris  Air Training Corps and Royal Observer Corps

Picture
The Man   Michael Eric Parris was born on Sunday 14th May 1933 in Blean, Canterbury, Kent, son of Ernest Victor, a Chemist’s Assistant and Iris Alice nee Mills.  He had one sister Carol Anne.

In 1939, Michael aged six and family were living with Iris’s parents William and Alice at 8 St Peter’s Road, Margate.

Michael joined the Kent Wing Air Training Corps as a Warrant Officer, possibly having been a cadet previously and having served 12 years awarded his Cadet Forces Medal

On 9th November 1956 he also joined the Royal Observer Corps as an Observer No 35633 and on 8th November 1968 his ROC Long Service Medal followed on 8th November 1980 by his first clasp.

Michael appears to have never married, living at 44 Bognor Drive, Henre Bay  and passed away aged just 65 in October 1998 in Canterbury.

The Story   The medal pair awarded to Michael Eric Parris were acquired from Facebook Marketplace on 20th June 2025 and of interest because of the scare double long service combination, especially with a confirmed clasp the ROC Medal.

Following a search on ancestry using Kent as the place lived in (from details provided with the CFM) there was only the one direct match with the initials M E and approximate birth date.

Sadly, a brief biography for such an unusual pair of medals and a man who devoted so much of his time to two organisations.
