Senior Officer G Allardyce Her Majesty's Prison Service
The Person The only information known about G Allardyce are that they joined Her Majesty’s Prison Service before 1997 and were awarded the Golden Jubilee Medal 2002, Diamond Jubilee Medal 2012 and the Prison Services (Operational Duties) Long Service and Good Conduct Medal, having served at HMP Feltham.
The long service medal was established by Royal Warrant on 17 December 2010 and awarded for long service to members of the various prison services of the United Kingdom. To qualify, a recipient must have served on full or part time operational prison duties for twenty years which can be continuous or aggregated.
Those who move to non-operational Prison Service duties due to injury can also receive the medal after a total of twenty years’ service.
Prison officers with a minimum of 25 years’ service were previously eligible for the Imperial Service Medal on retirement. As they cover the same service, the introduction of the Prison Services Medal meant that operational prison staff ceased to be eligible for the ISM.

The Story The Prison Services Long Service Medal was acquired from e-Bay in August 2021, following negotiation with the vendor. It was of interest due to its scarcity and the fact it followed a theme of Golden and Diamond Jubilee and emergency service trios.
