Bombardier E J Bolt Royal Artillery
The Man Little detail is known about EJ Bolt, except that he enlisted into the Territorial Royal Artillery with service number 873477 as a Gunner, in the Heavy Anti Aircraft Unit in about 1938.
He saw service either in Norway or as part of the British Expeditionary Force evacuated from Dunkirk or as a Prisoner of War early after D-Day.
He was awarded the 1939-45 Star, Defence Medal, War Medal 1939-45 and in Army Order 201 of 1945 his Efficiency Medal ‘Territorial’.
He remained in the Territorial Army following the war and was awarded three clasps to his efficiency Medal, the first in Army List 17 of 30th June 1951, the second in list 31 of 26th June 1965 and his third in 1963, representing 24 years’ service, (war service counting double).
The Story The medal group awarded to E J Bolt were acquired from E-Bay on 13th November 2023 and of interest because of the three clasped Efficiency Medal.
Sadly, there are three possible E J Bolt’s on Ancestry, who may be this man, thus no research is possible apart from confirmation of his Efficiency Medal and three clasps from Forces War Records and the OMRS database.
There is a story waiting to be told, but time will tell if it is revealed.
