Captain Michael Bernard John Brazier TD Royal Electrical Mechanical Engineers
The Man Michael Bernard John Brazier was born during the third quarter of 1927 in Fulham, son of Bernard A Brazier, a Civil Servant working for the Post Office and Susan Louise, nee Todd and in 1939 the family were living in Wimbledon.
Michael enlisted into the Territorial Army, Royal Artillery in about 1946 aged 18 or 19 and with service number 22255941. His service number suggests an enlistment date of late 1950/early 1951.
His career path has been plotted as 624 Light Anti-Aircraft Regiment RA (Royal Fusiliers) (TA) formed in 1947 as a new unit with HQ at Streatham. In 1955 they amalgamated with 562 LAA/SL Regiment (27th London Electrical Engineers) (TA) as 624 LAA Regiment with 562 forming the London Electrical Engineers Battery. In 1961 they converted to infantry and amalgamated with the 8th Bn the Royal Fusiliers (TA).
Michael married Joan Lilian Brett during the first quarter of 1952 and they had two children, Rosemary Lilian born in July 1952 and Ian Bernard born in October 1953. In the TA was promoted through the ranks to Warrant Officer Class II, awarded his Efficiency Medal ‘Territorial’ in Army Orders of 1964.
On 12th September 1958 Michael was Commissioned as 2nd Lieutenant on probation in the RA(TA), with a new service number of 458463. He was transferred to the Royal Fusiliers on 1st February 1961 and on 26th October the same year to the Royal Electrical Mechanical Engineers. He was promoted to Captain on 1st October 1964 and on 1st April 1967 transferred from the Territorial Army to the newly formed Territorial Army and Volunteer Reserve.
On 19th January 1971 he was awarded the Efficiency Decoration (T&AVR) and retired on 27th June 1975 aged 48, retaining the rank of Captain.
Joan passed away on 1st November 1999 and it is possible that Michael re-married to Sharon G Haines in August 2004 in Buckinghamshire.
Michael died in Crawley on 9th December 2009 aged 82.
