The Story The medal group awarded to Reginald Bulmer were acquired from Charlie’s Medals on 25th August 2022 and of interest because of the double long service / Imperial Service and another long service medal sub-theme in this collection.
With the medals came the Air Efficiency Award medal box, letter advising of the AEA and a small photograph of Reginald wearing his World War II medal ribbons.
A search of Ancestry revealed several Reginald Bulmer’s all born at about the same time, however Reginald’s home address on the AEA award letter matched one of those on the 1939 Register. This enabled his date of birth, occupation as a Postman and wife’s name to be established, enabling a more detailed search to be undertaken including his registration as a postman in 1930 from the London Gazette.
A pleasing result and it is good to have a photograph, once again the letter shows the importance of keeping paperwork together with the medals.
