Sergeant C Cooper  Royal Artillery

Picture
1939-45 Star. Burma Star. Defence Medal. War Medal 1939-45. Efficiency Medal 'Territorial'.
The Man   The only information known about C Cooper are that he enlisted into the Royal Garrison Artillery, with service number 1432018 (issued to the RGA in about 1920).  This would indicate he was a pre war regular soldier, transferring into the Territorial Army in the late 1930s.

He was promoted to Sergeant and mobilised at the start of World War II in 1939, seeing action in the gruelling Burma campaign during the war.

He was awarded the 1939-45 Star, Burma Star, Defence Medal, War Medal 1939-45 and in Army Order 196 of 1946 the Efficiency Medal ‘Territorial’.

He was awarded the 1939-45 Star, Burma Star, Defence Medal, War Medal 1939-45 and in Army Order 196 of 1946 the Efficiency Medal ‘Territorial’.

The Story   The medal group awarded to C Cooper were acquired at the Newark Antique Fair on 16th April 2021, following some serious haggling!

Sadly, no information could be found on Ancestry.UK with only the name C Cooper as there were too many possibilities and it is unknown if he had a middle initial.  The only detail found was the Army Order confirming the award of the Efficiency Medal.
