Gunner Peter Devlin Royal Garrison Artillery
The Man Peter Devlin enlisted into the Royal Garrison Artillery with service number 182144 and saw service during World War I. He was awarded the 1914-18 British War Medal & Victory Medal.
The Story The single Victory Medal awarded to Peter Devlin was acquired on a wet, dark, cold and miserable late Sunday afternoon on 23rd December 2018 from a Christmas Fair on the Parade in Leamington Spa. The medal was acquired together with two other single Victory Medals to Private George Clark and Pioneer William T Knott. It was considered that as these men had each fought through World War I, most likely given their all, and as 2018 was the 100th anniversary of the Armistice, they should be ‘rescued’ from their obscurity on a dealers table and at least given some memorial to their lives, even though very brief. It has not been possible to find any more detail on Ancestry.UK due to the sheer number of Peter Devlins. The British War Medal is missing thus this is a broken group.
