Sergeant W Edwards East Yorkshire Regiment, Prince of Wales Own & Army Cadet Force
The Man Very little detail is known about W Edwards, except that he enlisted into the East Yorkshire Regiment (Duke of York’s Own (15th Foot)) with service number 22634457 as a Private. He saw service in the Malayan campaign during 1953 – 56 and was awarded the General Service Medal ‘Malaya’. In 1958 the East Yorkshires amalgamated with the West Yorkshire Regiment (Prince of Wales Own (14th Foot)) and became the Prince of Wales Own Regiment of Yorkshire. W Edwards transferred into the Territorial Army Prince of Wales Own with the same service number, was promoted to Sergeant and awarded the Efficiency Medal ‘Territorial’ with long service clasp representing a total of 18 years service in the TA. He then transferred into the Army Cadet Force as a Senior NCO instructor and awarded the Cadet Forces Medal for a further 12 years voluntary service.
The Story The trio of medals were acquired through a private deal with an E-Bay vendor in April 2014 after they had failed to sell on the auction site. They were of interest because of the two long service medals, Efficiency & Cadet Forces and a clasp. Sadly it has not been possible to find any additional information about W Edwards due to the number of people on Ancestry.com with the same name.
