The Hammerman
Thomas Elliott - Imperial Service
Imperial Service Medal
The Man The only detail known about Thomas Edward Elliott has been abstracted from the London Gazette. There are possible leads on ancestry.com but his name is quite common. He was born in about 1874 and in April 1915 was employed, without competition, working for the Admiralty, HM Dockyards and Naval Establishments as a Skilled Labourer. He retired in March 1934 as a Hammerman and was working at Portsmouth Dockyard. He was awarded the Imperial Service Medal upon his retirement.
The Story The Imperial Service Medal was acquired on 14th December 1980 at Solihull antiques Fair, and following research some 30 years later the only detail found was been from the London Gazette entries, as detailed above. There are too many people with the same for a search to be made on ancestry.com, although this may become a future project.
This medal is one I have only been able to find a minimal amount of detail on. It is in effect 'work in progress' as one day something additional may well be uncovered. Please feel free to contact me should you know of, or have any information on this man.
