Brother Edgar
Segeant Edgar Thomas Everett Lincolnshire Regiment & Special Constabulary
Edgar Thomas Everett
The Man Little detail in known of Edgar Thomas Everett, but he was born on 28th January 1928 in Billericay, Suffolk, his Mothers maiden name being McGuanity. He served at home during World War 2 earning the Defence and War Medal 1939-45 and at some point enlisted into the Territorial Army in the Royal Lincolnshire Regiment, service number 22220469 serving at least 18 years and being awarded the Efficiency Medal ‘Territorial’ and a further long service bar. He was also a Special Constable and earned the Special Constabulary Long Service Medal. He married Hilda Mary Taylor on 25th March 1953 aged 25 in Gainsborough, Lincolnshire and they had one son, Peter John. It seems that Edgar's main interest were the Royal Antediluvian Order of the Buffaloes as he was a long serving member and initiated into Gainsborough Lodge No 3603, in Retford & District on 21st September 1954, when upon initiation he became a Brother (First Degree) (Kangaroo). He became affiliated to Lindsey Unity No 1036 in Scunthorpe and District on 16th December 1968; and on 24th June 1974 promoted to Certified Primo (Second Degree) and Knight Order of Merit (Knight or Sir) (Third Degree) on 24th October 1977. Edgar was further enrolled as a member of the Sunthorpe Chapter No 102 on 29th October 1977 and Exalted Roll of Honour (Right Honourable) (Fourth Degree) on 22nd February 1983. He was also President of Scunthorpe & District in 1984 and later an Honorary Member of the Lindsey Unity on 1st December 1994. Edgar died on 12th October 2006 aged 78 and was living at 35 Dam Road, Barton Upon Humber, North Lincolnshire DN18 5AU. He is listed on the Scunthorpe RAOB web site and at the time of his death he was a member of Beretun Lodge No 9786.
The Story The medals awarded to Edgar Thomas Everett were acquired from e-bay during April 2012. Once they had been delivered the usual question was asked of the vendor as to whether he possesses any additional information or items belonging to the man. In this case he did and following an exchange of e-mails three additional Royal Antediluvian Order of the Buffaloes Jewels were received together with some membership cards all belonging to Edgar Everett. The vendor explained that the medals had been recovered from a local tip in about 2006 (the year of Edgar’s death), and offered to him as an antique dealer! He later discovered an additional silver jewel in a separate box, no doubt awaiting the melting pot, and this too was subsequently acquired and re-united with Edgar’s other regalia. How easy it would have been for Edgar’s life to now be land fill somewhere in England! And like so many other men 'on parade' in this web site, although his biography is currently brief he is at least remembered for posterity, together with his collection of undoubtedly hard earned awards for a lifetime of service. During a visit to London in July 2012, Edgar’s will was located at the Family Records Division in Holborn. As is often the case some of his executors were named and following a cursory search on 192.com a Niece, Mrs Carol Knott’s telephone number was found. Mrs Knott was called and provided some extra detail to the above biography but most importantly sent two photographs of Edgar, allowing this set of medals to be reunited with ‘Their Man’.

At least Edgar’s albeit brief biography and face will now be recorded for posterity. Clearly the family are being asked for any additional detail which help to expand Edgar’s story still further.
