The Man Alfred Fielder was born on Monday10th January 1898 in Halterworth, Romsey, son of Peter a Gardener and Martha nee Pike. He was one of four children, Annie Eldridge born 1891, Elsie 1895 and Dorothy 1896.
By 1901 the family were living at 79 Edward Terrace, Southampton and 10 years later in 1911 at Clifton Lodge Cottages, Freshwater, Isle of Wight. Alfred was 18 in 1916 and it is possible he saw service in World War I.

Alfred worked in a reserved occupation as Aero Engine Fitter and in 1939 was living at 11 Fryers Cottages, Winchester. He also joined Hampshire Constabulary as a Special Constable and served in this capacity throughout World War II. He was awarded the Special Constabulary Long Service Medal in about 1943 and the Defence Medal following the War. He remained in the Special Constabulary and awarded long service clasps in 1949 and 1959.
Alfred died during the first quarter of 1967 aged 69 in Winchester and Ida a year late during the third quarter of 1968.

The Story The pair of medals awarded to Alfred Fielder were acquired from Dave Walters, antique dealer in November 2021 and of interest because of the double clasped Special Constabulary Medal.
Basic research was undertaken from Ancestry.UK and it is likely Alfred also saw service during World War I, but there are so many Alfred Fielders, it was not possible to confirm this.
The 1939 Register shows him as a Special Constable in Hampshire Constabulary, although his date of birth is for some reason shown as 1897, one year before his actual birth.
