Gunner J Hannan Royal Artillery and Army Catering Corps
The Man and Story Little is known about J Hannan except that he joined the Royal Artillery, possibly as a National Serviceman with number 23490692, seeing service during the Cyprus Campaign and being awarded the General Service Medal with ‘Cyprus’ clasp.
He later enlisted into the Territorial Army, Army Catering Corps with the same number, promoted to Corporal and awarded the Efficiency Medal ‘Territorial’ (1982) in List 173 of 1991 page 28.
The medal group were acquired from e-Bay on 1st October 2022 and of interest because of the combination of the GSM together with the much later, post 1982 Efficiency Medal ‘Territorial’ with the blue and green ribbon.
Sadly because of his single initial no direct match could be found on Ancestry.UK, however a pleasing pair of medals with a possible span of around 30 years between each.
