Harold J Healey  Fire Brigade and Special Constabulary

PictureDefence Medal. Fire Brigade Long Service Medal. Special Constabulary Long Service Medal.
The Man and The Story    The medal combination awarded to Harold J Healey were acquired from E-Bay on 20th September 2022, and of interest because of the seemingly scarce combination of Special Constabulary and Fire Brigade Long Service Medals, showing long service in two emergency services.

It is likely Harold joined the Special Constabulary in about 1926, being awarded the Special Constabulary Long Service Medal in about 1935, then with the onset of World War II enlisted into the National Fire Service, either as a regular or auxiliary officer, this would explain the lack of clasps on the SCLS medal.

In any event he served during World War II and was awarded the Defence Medal and later the Fire Brigade Long Service Medal.

It is a combination not often seen, but sadly there are many Harold J Healey’s on Ancestry, thus no biography can be pieced together.

Nevertheless, an interesting and unusual group of medals.
