Sergeant Francis Willliam Jump Royal Army Service Corps & Royal Artillery
The Man Francis William Jump (Frank) was born on Tuesday 13th July 1926 in Liverpool, son of William, a Wireless Accumulator Charger and Maud (Cissie) Maria nee Billings. He had one younger Brother, Ronnie who was born in 1928 but died aged 10 in 1938. By 1939, Frank, aged 13 was living his parents at 47 Florentine Road, Liverpool and shown as still at school. When Frank turned 18 in 1944 and during the latter stages of World War II, he enlisted into the Royal Army Service Corps, as a Private with service number S/14863505. Following the war, he was posted and saw service in Palestine with 414 Horse Transport Company RASC at Sarafand Garrison in the South Palestine District between February 1947 and January 1948. He was awarded the War Medal 1939-45 and General Service Medal with clasp ‘Palestine 1945-48’.
During 1949 now aged 23 and following his demobilisation, Frank enlisted into the 287 Medium Regiment Royal Artillery, with a new service number 22262875 and was awarded the Efficiency Medal ‘Territorial’ in Army Order 70 of 1961 for 12 years’ service. Frank appears not to have married and lived with his parents, at 47 Florentine Road until their deaths in 1983 and was shown on the Electoral Registers of 2000 as still living there. Frank died on 25th September 2010 in Liverpool aged 84 and living at the same address.

The Story The trio of medals awarded to F W Jump were acquired during January 2014 and were of interest because of the combination and the Efficiency Medal EIIR issue. Apart from the GSM Medal Roll no other detail was found on Ancestry.UK at the time due to the number of F W Jumps, a seemingly unusual name! However, during the 2020 ‘lockdown’ Ancestry was reviewed, and as Jump had only qualified for the War Medal 1939-45, indicating an entry into World War II from 1943 onwards, his details were entered again with an approximate birth year of 1923, deducting 20 years from 1943. There was only one definitive ‘hit’, and all the relevant years tied up, also allowing his will to be located. Thus beyond all reasonable doubt the man is Francis William Jump, and after some time his full name and brief biographical details are recorded and preserved. As an interesting part of the medal provenance, the actual decision to purchase them was made whilst cycling around Temples in Bagan on a very hot January day in 2014!
