Constable Wallace Paull Lister Staffordshire Special Constabulary
The Man Wallace Paull Lister was born on Wednesday 12th October 1904 in Dudley, Tipton then part of Staffordshire, son of John Barker, an assistant Ironmonger working for his Father and Mildred Rose, nee Paull. He had one brother Jack Paull born in 1900.
Wallace’s mother Mildred died during the same quarter in 1904 that he was born in, possibly from childbirth complications and by 1911, Wallace aged 6 was living with his father, brother, grandparents, uncle and aunt at 141 High Street, West Bromwich.
On 22nd July 1931 Wallace married Nellie Winifred Roberts in Wednesbury Parish Church, West Bromwich. They had three children, Richard Paull born in August 1934, Patricia Ann 1937 and William Wallace 1941.
By 1939 aged 35, Wallace had become a Manager of an Engineering Supply Stores and Company Secretary, engineering small tools. He was living at 30 Hollyhedge Road, West Bromwich but no trace can be found of Nellie or his children in 1939. Wallace had also joined the Staffordshire Special Constabulary, serving throughout the war being awarded the Special Constabulary Long Service Medal in about 1942, war service counting treble.
Following the War, he was also awarded the Defence Medal and remained in the SC, receiving his first clasp in 1947 and second in 1955.
In later years Wallace and Nellie lived at 30 and 41, Charlemont Avenue, West Bromwich and Nellie died on 16th October 1972. Three years later during the last quarter of 1975 aged 71 Wallace re-married to Alice Stephanie Livesey in South Staffordshire and they lived at 12 Penn Road, Gospel End, Sedgeley, West Midlands.
Wallace passed away on 9th September 1979 aged 74 leaving £28,454.00. He was cremated on 13th September at the Sandwell Valley Crematorium, Sandwell and his ashes buried.
