Sergeant Thomas William Prior Royal Corps of Transport
The Man The only information known about Thomas William Prior is that he would have served with an infantry battalion in Burma during World War II and later saw service in the Royal Corps of Transport as a member of the Territorial Army, service number 23737275. During the 1940s he lived at 41 Zinzan Street in Reading. Promoted to Corporal and then Sergeant, he was one of the few to receive Her Majesty’s Silver Jubilee during 1977 as a Berkshire, Buckinghamshire & Oxford Bank Royal Corps of Transport Territorial Army Volunteer Reserve. Sadly there are so many Thomas William Priors on Ancestry.com it has not, at this time been possible to conduct any further research.
The Story This interesting group were first seen at the London Medal Company’s shop in early October 2013, but were not finally acquired until the end of November. They were of interest because of the World War II awards, followed by the Silver Jubilee Medal 1977 and the Efficiency Medal ‘T&AVR’. Sadly little detail has yet been found on the man himself apart from the Silver Jubilee Medal roll and his address from the box of issue for the WWII awards.
These medals are a group I have only been able to find a minimal amount of detail on. It is in effect 'work in progress' as one day something additional may well be uncovered. please feel free to contact me should you know of, or have any information on this man or his missing medals.
