From Bandages to Riches.
Sergeant Sidney Riches Royal Army Medical Corps & Special Constabulary
1914-15 Star. 1914-18 British War Medal. Victory Medal. Territorial Force Efficiency Medal. Special Constabulary Long Service Medal.
The Man Sidney Riches enlisted as a volunteer into the London Mounted Field Brigade Royal Army Medical Corps Territorial Force sometime before World War 1, his service number was 1319 and he was subsequently awarded the Territorial Force Efficiency Medal. Following the outbreak of World War 1 he was sent to Egypt on 12th November 1914 and discharged on 12th March 1917, being awarded the 1914-15 Star, 1914-18 British War and Victory Medals. He then joined the Special Constabulary and was awarded the Long Service & Good Conduct Medal. This is a broken group as the original 1914-15 Star is missing and has been replaced with a copy. Interestingly there are a lot of Sidney Riches on ancestry.com and it has not been possible to uncover any additional information at this time.
This medal is one I have only been able to find a minimal amount of detail on. It is in effect 'work in progress' as one day something additional may well be uncovered. Please feel free to contact me should you know of, or have any information on this man or his missing medal.

The Story The medal group awarded to Sidney Riches were acquired from E-Bay on 23rd October 2011 and aroused interest because of the Territorial force Efficiency Medal and Special Constabulary Long Service Medal combination, the latter engraved with his first name. Minor biographical detail was found on Ancestry.UK and his medal index card from World War I, but due to there being so many Sidney Riches, a seemingly not so unusual name, no further detail has yet been found.
