Captain Frederick Gordon Sheppard MBE Wessex Regiment
The Man Frederick Gordon Sheppard was born in about 1934. He joined the Wiltshire Regiment Territorial Army in around 1954 with service number 22147232 and was promoted through the ranks to Warrant Officer Class II.
He was awarded his Efficiency Medal ‘Territorial’ in List No 70 of 1966 as WO Cl II and transferred to the Wessex Regiment (Rifle Volunteers), in Army List 96 of 1972 he was awarded the first clasp to his Efficiency Medal.
In the New Years Honours list of 1975 Frederick was appointed as Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empite Military Division. This was followed by the award of his Efficiency Medal ‘T&AVR’ in Army List 120 of 6th April 1979, the regulations governing the award having changed in 1967 and the clasp to his EM(T) cancelled in the same orders.
On 6th February 1978 Frederick was Commissioned as Lieutenant (Quartermaster) in the 1 Wessex Regiment with a new service number of 506101 and promoted to Captain on 26th July.
On 13th March 1984 after a total of approximately 30 years service, Frederick resigned his commission.
The Story The medals awarded to Frederick Gordon Sheppard were purchased from Stephen Wheeler Medals in London and of interest because of the Efficiency Medals combination together with the MBE, and unusual trio.
London Gazette provided brief details, but there were too many Frederick G Sheppards on Ancestry to be able to make a direct hit, even using an approximate year of birth.
