Warrant Officer Class II F M Taylor  West Yorkshire Regiment

Picture
Defence Medal. War Medal 1939-45. Army Long Service & Good Conduct Medal. Efficiency Medal 'Territorial' & clasp.
The Man   Little detail is known about F M Taylor, except that may have been born in about 1902.  He enlisted into the West Yorkshire Regiment as Private with service number 6841175 in about 1921, being awarded the Medal for Long Service and Good Conduct (Military) in Army Order 75 of 1939.  During World War II he served at home possibly as part of the 49th (The West Yorkshire Regiment) Anti-Aircraft Battalion of the Royal Engineers, that converted into a searchlight regiment of the Royal Artillery in 1940.  He was awarded the Defence and War Medal 1939-45.  In about 1949 he reenlisted into the West Yorkshire Regiment Territorial Army with service number 2220807 and rose through the ranks to Warrant Officer 2nd Class and awarded the Efficiency Medal ‘Territorial’ in Army Order 70 of 1961.  He transferred to the Royal Signals TA and awarded the first clasp to his Efficiency Medal in 1967, aged 65?   He was also a keen shot winning a Harington Shield Shooting Medallion in 1957, 58, 59 and 60.
The Story   The medals awarded to F M Taylor were acquired from The Medal Centre in July 2013 and of interest because of the double long service awards in both the regular and then Territorial Army.  Sadly very little detail was acquired from Ancestry.UK and at the time of writing not even his first names were known.  A search of Forces War Records in 2020 allowed approximate dates of service to be acquired, but it was still not possible to pinpoint an exact match on Ancestry thus still no name available.
