Corporal Frederick Charles Barratt Essex Regiment & 9th London Regiment
The Man Little detail is known about Frederick Charles Barratt except he was born in about 1892. In April 1913 aged 21 he was appointed as a Porter within the Civil Service in London and during World War 1 enlisted into the Essex Regiment service number 351107. Following the War he joined the 9th (County of London) Battalion London Regiment (Queen Victoria’s) Territorial Army, number 6595562, based in Berkeley Square. He served a number of years earning both the Territorial Efficiency Medal and the Efficiency Medal ‘Territorial’. He returned to working for the Civil Service and during July 1929 moved to the Ministry of Pensions as Clerical Class and again in 1931 to the Home Office Prison Commission. Frederick retired from the Civil Service in May 1944 and was awarded the Imperial Service Medal as Head Porter London Postal Region.
This group of medals is one I have only been able to find a minimal amount of detail on. They are in effect 'work in progress' as one day something additional may well be uncovered. Please feel free to contact me should you know of, or have any information on this man.

The Story The medals awarded to Frederick Charles Barratt were acquired from E-Bay on 20th September 2011 and were of interest because of the treble long service awards. Initially only very sketchy detail could be found on ancestry.com or the London Gazette, however a re-visit in October 2014, uncovered further detail from the LG. Another trawl of Ancestry proved frustrating, as there seem to be two Frederick Charles Barratts born at about the same time, although with different death dates. He may have died in the late 1930s and the Imperial Service Medal awarded posthumously, or he may have survived into the 1950s and been Commissioned in the Royal Air Force during World War II! There is potential for further research, and all it needs is the one name or clue to establish the link to be made. The RAF records will be checked when next at The National Archives to see if anything further can be taken from those. In the meantime this remains a ‘work in progress’
