Captain William Brock TD Devonshire Regiment
1939-45 Star. France & Germany Star. Defence Medal. War Medal 1939-45 with MiD Oak Leaf. Efficiency Decoration 'Territorial'. Special Constabulary Long Service Medal.
The Man Little information is known about William Brock, except that he joined the Special Constabulary as a Constable, and the Territorial Army during the early 1920s and served in France & Germany during World War II being awarded a Mention in Despatches. The only detail available, due to the large number of people with the same name on ancestry.uk, are the various entries from the London Gazette, although it seems there may have been two William Brocks serving in the Devonshire Regiment, which might cause some confusion. William Brock enlisted into the 4th Battalion Devonshire Regiment, Territorial Army Reserve of Officers, service number 30340, and appointed 2nd Lieutenant on 21st January 1922, Lieutenant on 24th October and Captain 16th February 1932. William ‘may’ have resigned his Commission on 31st December 1938, but was recalled after the outbreak of World War II and promoted to Major on 12th July 1939. He was awarded the Efficiency Decoration on 4th August 1942 and Mentioned in Despatches on 9th August 1945 gallant and distinguished service in North-West Europe. William ceased to belong to the TARO having exceeded the age limit of liability to recall on 8th November 1950.
The Story The group of medals awarded to Captain William Brock were acquired as a ‘buy it now’ on E-Bay in June 2013. They were of interest due to the Efficiency Decoration and the named Special Constabulary Medal. Sadly at the time of writing no additional detail has been uncovered except from the London Gazette.
This group of medals is one I have only been able to minimal detail on. They are in effect 'work in progress' as one day something additional may well be uncovered. Please feel free to contact me should you know of, or have any information on this man.
