Driver Fred Hale Royal Artillery
The Man Fred Hale enlisted into the Royal Field Artillery as a Driver with service number 239847 and saw service during World War I. He was awarded the 1914-18 British War and Victory Medals. No other detail is known about Fred.
The Story The 1914-18 British War Medal awarded to Fred Hale was acquired from E-Bay on 14th January 2016. It was of interest as it had been found, minus its suspender, whilst metal detecting. It seemed somehow appropriate to acquire Fred’s hard earned award, have a replacement suspender added and place it with a Victory Medal to at least recognise Fred’s service to his country. One can only wonder as to how his medal was originally lost and for how long it had lain buried underground! Due to the large number of Fred Hales on Ancestry.UK no further information can be found. As the Victory Medal is missing this is a broken group.
This group of medals is one I have only been able to find a minimal amount of detail on. They are in effect 'work in progress' as one day something additional may well be uncovered. Please feel free to contact me should you know of, or have any information on this man.
