Divisional Officer Gerald Hale London Fire Brigade
The Man Little detail is known about Gerald Hale except that he served during World War II, most likely in the Royal Navy, seeing service in the North Africa, Burma and Pacific campaigns. He was awarded the 1939-45 Star, Africa Star with ‘North Africa 1943-43’ clasp, Burma Star with ‘Pacific’ clasp, the Defence Medal and War Medal 1939-45.
He later joined the London Fire Brigade and promoted to Divisional Officer, being awarded the Fire Brigade Long Service and Good Conduct and Silver Jubilee 1977 medals, possibly at about the time of his retirement.
The Story The medal group awarded to Gerald Hale were acquired from E-Bay 7th May 2923. They were of interest because of the unusual combination of the Silver Jubilee 1977 and Fire Brigade Long Service Medal, only the second such combination in his collection.
There were only two Gerald Hales on Ancestry without a middle name, one being born in London in 1925, but too young to have qualified for this combination of World War II medals, the other born in a much more likely year of 1919, but living his entire life in Lincolnshire!
Without any definitive link it is not possible to determine which, if either is the correct man.
