Corporal Anthony V S Kent Royal Signals
The Man Anthony V S Kent was born during the second quarter of 1927 in Abergavenny, his mother’s maiden name being Riley.
Anthony became 18 in April 1945 and was called up to the Royal Signals service number 14139816, most likely too late to qualify for the War Medal 1939-45 he was posted to Palestine in 1945 as the armed conflict there had escalated during the final phase of the World War II, when The Irgun declared a revolt in February 1944, ending the hiatus in operations that had begun in 1940.
He was promoted to Corporal and awarded the General Service Medal with clasp ‘Palestine 1945-48’.
During the first quarter of 1951 aged 24 he married Eirwen Lloyd Edwards in Abergavenny. Eirwen died in 1970 and Anthony re-married during the first quarter of 1983 to Norma P Davis in Swansea.
No further detail is currently known about Anthony V S Kent.

The Story The single General Service Medal awarded to Anthony V S Kent was acquired at the Newark Antique Fair on Friday 4th June 2022.
The medal had been seen twice before at Newark Runway Mondays in April and May, but the cost too high, despite several small photographs and the box of issue being with the medal.
Following a drop in price and some bartering on 4th June, the medal was acquired having been literally ‘calling out’ for most of the day!
Despite Anthony’s three initials, very little detail could be found on Ancestry.UK, but enough to piece a brief biography together. No death date could be found, indicating that Anthony had only died fairly recently, the medals perhaps coming from his estate in a house clearance.
The idea Anthony may be entitled to the War Medal 1939-45 was considered, but as he was only born in April 1927, means he would have to have enlisted immediately on his 18th Birthday which must have been before 10th April 1945, to qualify, so probably unlikely given he was born during the second quarter (April-July).
Interestingly, it was later discovered that the medal had in fact been sold at David Duggleby Auctions on 4th February 2022.
At least now Anthony may now be remembered for posterity. Trawling through the pictures revealed one man who appeared numerous times, it is therefore assumed he is Anthony Kent?
