Staff Sergeant James Andrew Kerr  Royal Army Ordnance Corps and Royal Artillery

The Man   James (Jimmy) Andrew Kerr enlisted into the Royal Army Ordnance Corps Territorial Army with service number 24664201 on 18th April 1985.

In June 1988 he qualified for his Regimental Proficiency Certificate Part 2 and in January 1991, following the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait the previous August Jimmy was posted to Saudi Arabia as part of the British force and Operation Granby, to expel the Iraqi’s from Kuwait and liberate.  The overall operation name was Desert Storm and successful in expelling the Iraqis.  For his service Jimmy was awarded The Gulf Medal with clasp ’16 JAN TO 28 FEB 1991’.

During his time in the TA Jimmy attended many courses including Physical Training Leaders, Gunner Field Guns, Regimental Medical Assistant, Surface to Air Missile (Rapier Field Standard), Potential Sergeants, Drill Instructor, Combat Marksmanship Coach and Range Management.  He also transferred to the Royal Artillery and was promoted through the ranks to Staff Sergeant. 

In March 1999, Jimmy was awarded the Efficiency Medal ‘Territorial’ or 12 years service in the TA, his being one of the very last awards before being superseded by the Volunteer Reserve Service Medal on 1st April.  In 2002 he was awarded the Golden Jubilee Medal 2002 and in 2006 the first clasp to his Efficiency Medal.

Jimmy left the TA 29th August 2007 having served for 22 years.
