Staff Sergeant E J Morris Royal Army Medical Corps
The Man E J Morris was born around 1915 and enlisted into the Royal Army Medical Corps, Territorial Army in about 1935. He was possibly a Dunkirk evacuee or involved in the Norwegian Campaign and awarded the 1939 Star, Defence Medal, War Medal 1939-45 and the Efficiency Medal ‘Territorial’ and clasp, the latter awarded in February 1947 and listed in Amy Order 26/47. The qualification date for the medal would appear to be 1943 but not awarded until the cessation of hostilities. He was promoted to Staff Sergeant. No further detail is currently known about E J Morris.
The Story The medal group awarded to E J Morris was acquired from E-Bay on 18th August 2020. They were only seen a few minutes before the end of the auction and aroused interest because of the Efficiency Medal and clasp, the possible ‘D-Day’ or ‘Norway Campaign’ combination and the current auction price was very low. They were watched for the last few minutes and a bid manually placed seconds before the deadline and won. The only detail that could be found was from Forces War Record confirming the award of the Efficiency Medal and clasp in 1947. There were some possible matches on Ancestry but too many with the name E J Morris to be able to make a definitive link. Nevertheless, a pleasing group with the confirmed clasp and a story waiting to be uncovered.
