Gunner Thomas W Moses Royal Artillery & Special Constabulary
1939-45 Star. Africa Star. Burma Star. Defence Medal. War Medal 1939-45. Efficiency Medal 'Territorial'. Special Constabulary Long Service Medal & bar '1969'.
The Man Very little detail is known about Thomas W Moses, except that he may have been born in the fourth quarter of 1911 in Brampton, Cumberland and his Mother’s maiden name Watson. He lived or lodged at Bank Farm, Low Row in Carlisle. He was a member of the Territorial Army and enlisted into the Royal Artillery with service number 896967. He saw service during World War II in Africa and Burma and in about 1950 joined the special Constabulary.
The Story The medals were acquired from e-bay and were of interest because of the two long service medals. Following enquiries with the vendor, he revealed he also had a grubby kit bag belonging to Thomas Moses which was also acquired and gave a little more detail of the possible location of Moses’ home town. Surprisingly there are a lot of Thomas W Moses on ancestry.com and a number from Carlisle! It has not therefore been possible to garner a great detail of information to write a biography.
This group of medals is one I have not been able to find any detail on. They are in effect ‘work in progress’ as one day something additional may well be uncovered. Please feel free to contact me should you know of, or have any information on this man.
