Gunner Fergus Paton Royal Field Artillery
1914-18 British War Medal
The Man Fergus Paton enlisted into the Royal Field Artillery during World War 1 service number 1405, his number later changing to 665400. He was awarded the 1914-18 British War Medal and Victory Medal, although the Victory Medal is missing and an erased one added in its place; sadly this is a broken group. It is hoped to acquire a little more information through ancestry.com in due course, although there is more than one Fergus Paton
This medal is one I have only been able to find a minimal amount of detail on. It is in effect 'work in progress' as one day something additional may well be uncovered. Please feel free to contact me should you know of, or have any information on this man or his missing medal.
The Story The single broken British War Medal awarded to Fergus Paton was acquired on E-Bay in November 2008. It was subsequently carried discreetly at an Armistice Parade in Bedworth on 11th November the same year, before being repaired and mounted with an erased Victory Medal to replicate Fergus’ full World War I medal entitlement, thus recording for posterity another ‘forgotten’ name of long ago.
