Edward’s parents appear to have separated as the 1939 census shows his mother working as a Fish Fryer and living with an Arthur Perry at 119 Greenway Street in Birmingham.  Interestingly her father had also been a Fish Fryer.  Meanwhile Edward, his father George and Maud were living at 30 Netherby Street, Toxteth, Liverpool.  Edward’s name having been redacted as he had already been called up in preparation for World War II.

During the war Edward saw service in Northwest Europe and at the end of the conflict awarded the 1939-45 Star, France and Germany Star, Defence Medal and War Medal 1939-45.  He appears to have enlisted into the Territorial Army, Royal Army Pay Corps with service number T/22253228 in about 1949 aged 27 and over the next 12 years was promoted to Sergeant.

In 1961 he was awarded the Efficiency Medal ‘Territorial’ and in 1967 qualified for the first clasp.  He was awarded the British Empire Medal (Military) in 1971, this appearing in the London Gazette of 12th June 1971, although his middle name was misspelt as Pullen.  At some time he transferred into the Royal Army Pay Corps and in 1973 qualified for a second clasp to his Efficiency Medal but exchanged both clasps for the Efficiency  medal ‘T&AVR’ following the changes made in 1967.  This award appeared in Army List 120 of 6th April 1979, after Edward had left the TA.

It seems Edward never married although electoral registers from 1947 onward show him still living at 30 Netherby Street, with his father and an ‘Urbenie’ Reynolds.  No trace of an Urbenie can be found however to validate this.

Edward passed away aged 79 on 20th November 2001 and was living at 21 Crawshaw Court, off Dinas Lane, Huyton, Liverpool.  An Edgar Guido Edwin Reynolds dealt with his administration, but despite the unusual name, no direct link could be made on Ancestry.

The Story   The medal group awarded to Edward Pullin Reynolds were acquired from DCM Medals on 28th April 2023, having been pondered over for a few days.

The interest was because of the British Empire, Efficiency Medals combination together with the World War II awards.

Not a great deal of information could be found on Ancestry.UK, but sufficient to enable a very brief biography to be completed.
