Corporal M Weatherill West Yorkshire Regiment and Royal Corps of Transport

PictureGeneral Service Medal 'Malaya'. Efficiency Medal 'T&AVR'.
The Man   Little detail is known about M Weatherill except that he joined the West Yorkshire Regiment as a Private with service number 1917965 most likely as a National Serviceman and seeing service in the Malayan Campaign sometime between 1948-60.  He was awarded the General Service Medal with clasp Malaya.

He later re-enlisted into the Territorial Army, Royal Corps of Transport in about 1960 with a new number, 23259435 and promoted to Corporal.  He was awarded his Efficiency Medal ‘T&AVR in Army List 96 of 1972.

No other detail is known apart from the fact he may have lived in Hull.

The Story   The medal pair awarded to M Weatherill were seen at the Stratford Upon Avon Medal Fair on 29th October 2023 on the Medal Centre’s table.  They were seen again at the Britannia Medal Fair in London on 19th November 2023 and the decision was made to acquire them.  They were of interest simply because of the combination.

Sadly, despite some extensive checking no specific details could be found for an M Weatherill apart from the Army List on Forces War Record and OMRS digital archive.
